Instrument Engineer 1615170 Job Description We are looking for an Instrument Engineer to support the PDGS Project Manager and the Data Quality and Algorithms Management office for the implementation of the Payload Data Ground Segments for the SAOCOM Companion Satellite and the Biomass missions. This will be based at our client ESAs ESRIN site in Frascati, Italy. The support will cover all aspects related to Level1 Instrument Processing, Calibration, Data Quality Control and Instruments Monitoring and spans from phase B2 to phase E1 for both missions 2017 2022. Your support will include Instrument Calibration Facility ICF Review the calibration approaches internal and external as proposed by the space segment Specify the calibration subsystem requirements and follow its development Support the integration and validation into the PDGS Support the calibration activities during phase E1 and beyond Derive the phase E2 calibration and validation plan L1 product definition Support the L1 product performance definition Support the L1 product format definition L1 Instrument Processing Facility IPF Review the L1 processing algorithm as defined by the space segment Support the development of the ground prototype processor Specify the operational processor subsystem requirements and follow its development Support the integration and validation into the PDGS Manage the IPF evolution during phase E1 and beyond Instrument Monitoring Facility IMF Specify the IMF subsystem requirements and follow its development Support the integration and validation into the PDGS Manage the IMF evolution during phase E1 and beyond Quality Control Facility QCF Specify the QCG subsystem requirements and follow its development Support the integration and validation into the PDGS Manage the QCF evolution during phase E1 and beyond Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent qualification, in physics or telecommunication preferably applied to Remote Sensing and Earth Observation 4 years of working experience in the SAR domain with experience of calibration or SAR processing Good understanding of and background in geophysical sciences andor specific instruments relevant to the considered mission Proven experience in SAR polarimetry or tomography Desirable Skills and Experience Instrument and data monitoring systems Data quality control systems Instrument Processors Calibration systems Knowledge of the ESA Earth Explorers missions and instruments and processes related to their PDGS development Programming skills e.g. MatLab, IDL, python in order to develop tools for the accomplishment of the engineering, testing and validation activities Knowledge of the ECSS standards and documentation and configuration control management techniques.
