Qualcomm belt tightening expected to result in layoffs

The San Diego wireless technology giant is not commenting ahead of its fiscal third quarter earnings conference call, but speculation in the media and among analysts puts the head count reductions at 2,000 to 4,000 worldwide. "The numbers that are being thrown around are in the ballpark of what we typically see when companies do meaningful restructuring - a 10 percent head count reduction is pretty typical," said Tavis McCourt, an analyst with Raymond James.
