We are looking for a Radio Navigation Receiver Engineer E3 to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. Modis Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Modis is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 120 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. Specific tasks to be performed Support to Navigation Projects e.g. EGNOS and GALILEO and RD activities in the fields of system and receivers performances in a hybrid PNT framework GNSS algorithms at signal and position level, deadreckoning motion sensors such as INS, visionbased INS, alternative PNT systems, use of signals from cellular network, etc.. Participation in studies supporting current and future PNT systems definition andor analysis, in particular for what concerns system performances and receiver algorithms signal processing, advanced hybrid PNT algorithms, situational awareness and mitigation of local impairments for improved availability, reliability and resilience. Participation to the activities supporting standardisation and technical working groups addressing the aforementioned topics Design, definition and follow up of industrial contracts related to the aforementioned topics, including RD activities and.or procurement of GNSS testbeds and receivers for infrastructure or user technologies user segments Support design, implementation, maintenance and operation of Radio Navigation equipment, complex Radio Navigation simulation tools and test facilities for testing features endtoend performances, receivers, etc. in the aforementioned activities. General tasks to be performed Radio Navigation system GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO etc. and augmentation EGNOS, WAAS, QZSS etc.. The work includes studies analyses and testing of navigation systemssegmentselementstechnology, dissemination and navigation algorithms, including tools development evaluation of NavigationPositioningTiming algorithm and techniques, usersystemsegment performance assessment based on software simulators, laboratory and field measurements, and support to ESA projects in follow up of industrial procurements. Radio Navigation equipment covering space applications. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of navigationpositioningrangingmonitoring technology and receiver for space. Radio Navigation space applications performed at ESA include scientific applications atmospheric sounding, oceanic observation, formation flying, rendezvous and attitude determination. Radio Navigation equipment for terrestrial applications. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of navigation receiverstechnology for terrestrial applications and local augmentation. Radio Navigation terrestrial applications performed at ESA are those related with high performance based on high accuracy e.g. geodesy andor high integrity e.g. civil aviation, maritime. Radio Navigation signals and signal processing. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of signal and signal processing techniques including toolsequipment development and procurement. It encompasses signal structure, modulations, data dissemination, techniques for error correction, synchronisation, multipath mitigation and estimation, interference mitigation, cancellation, encryption, authentication, etc. Radio Navigation Laboratory equipment. The work includes definition procurement design, testing, usage of Radio Navigation equipment in support to Radio Navigation experiments and test campaigns. Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA Projects and RD activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. Execution of internal RD activities through design, prototyping, analysis and simulations. Simulation and testing in laboratory of Navigation systems and equipment. Preparation of technical documents on above subjects. Support to related demonstrations inside and outside ESTEC. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Master degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Aerospace Engineering. Background and experience including handson tests and field trials in several of the following fields GNSS and associated user technologies, nonGNSS positioning systems e.g. alternative PNT, 5G, etc. and associated user technologies advanced signal processing and estimation algorithms applied to PNT for instance including but not limited to some of the following MIMO signal processing, kalman filter, particle filter, artificial intelligence and machine learning for sensor fusion. Some experience in system design and user equipment technologies for secure wireless systems is considered an asset. Relevant experience with the GNSS1, EGNOS andor GALILEO systems and equipment and have and good knowledge of Radio Navigation simulation and testing systems. Proven experience in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications. Strong experience at user level with satellite navigation receivers and satellite navigation positioning and integrity algorithms. Some experience of commercial simulation software is desirable.
