'Santa rally' has no more gifts to give

A short-lived "Santa rally" that saw the market add 5.5 per cent, or $83 billion in value, over the previous four sessions came to a halt on Tuesday as BHP Billiton led the bourse lower. As a turbulent December quarter draws to a close, the market is ahead less than 1 per cent year-to-date.
