US stocks advance; biotech shares rebound on Gilead results

U.S. stocks rose Friday, with the Standard & Poor's 500 Index paring a weekly loss, as Gilead Sciences Inc. led a rebound after Thursday's selloff in biotechnology and small-cap shares. Gilead added 5.4 percent after first-quarter profit exceeded projections, and Biogen Inc. rose 3.4 percent.

Com Hem Holding AB has completed its redemption program and has now 206,643,376 shares, with an equal number of votes attached. The redemption program, which was resolved upon at an extraordinary general meeting in Com Hem on 10 March 2015, has now been completed, and the share capital in Com Hem has been reduced with SEK 886,221 by way of redemption of a total of 886,221 shares.

European shares weighed down

European equity indexes fell for a third straight day on Thursday, weighed down by a selloff in technology stocks after disappointing numbers from Nokia and by a strengthening euro. Shares in the Finnish firm fell 8.6 percent after it posted quarterly profits well below forecasts at its main telecom network equipment business, citing lower software sales, higher costs and challenging conditions in Europe and Latin America.
