Shares of Cheung Kong Holdings Ltd and Hutchison Whampoa surged on Monday after Asia's richest man Li Ka-shing announced a restructuring of his business empire, a move he said was aimed at creating better value for shareholders. The group said on Friday that the Hong Kong conglomerate will split into two listed companies, one focusing on property and the other on telecoms, retail and energy, in a bid to boost their value and attract more investors.

Shares of Nanya Technology Corp. and Inotera Memories Inc. , two of Taiwan's leading dynamic random access memory chip makers, moved higher Friday morning after their U.S. based counterpart Micron Technology Inc. soared on Wall Street overnight, dealers said. However, Nanya and Inotera's gains were limited amid concerns over the first quarter's usual slow season, which prevented investors from chasing prices, dealers said.

Portugal's stock market regulator on Friday suspended trading in shares of Portugal Telecom SGPS SA until the firm discloses "relevant information" about the sale of an operating unit to France's Altice SA . The regulator, CMVM, said it had asked Portugal Telecom several times since Dec. 22 to provide more details about a Jan. 12 shareholder meeting to approve the sale but hadn't received a response.
