We are recruiting a forwardthinking senior propulsion design engineer for an exciting spaceflight development role based in Forres Inverness at its new Engineering and Manufacturing centre. We are seeking a motivated, highly experienced rocket engine fluid systems design engineer to work on propulsion systems for an orbital space launch vehicle. You will have the opportunity to become an integral part of a senior team of highly dedicated engineers working to develop and implement an entirely novel propulsion system. You will probably be a highly experienced aerospace propulsion engineer, working in a slowmoving environment that rarely gives you a chance to see your work in action. You will be eager for a fastpaced opportunity that offers exceptional freedom and responsibility, as well as the chance to create a critical component on a European space launch vehicle. We expect you to be technically wellfounded within the propulsion field and your qualificationsexperience base will likely contain several of these points Design, analysis, optimization and testing of fluid systems for biprop and coldgas propulsion systems. Propulsion and tank system modelization and software model development Twophase injection optimization Combustion processes analysis and modelling Isovalve characteristics design and developmentselection Microgravity fluid management systems design. Testing qualification programme development and execution Technical support of operational campaigns Systems engineering Design documentation production Required Experience Essential Minimum of a bachelors degree in aerospace engineering or a related field Biprop rocket engine propulsion experience, pressure fed and closed cycle systems preferable Cryogenic propellants, materials compatibility and sealing technology Turbomachinery operations knowledge and cryogenic experience preferable Designs for cryogenic fluids, including liquid oxygen. Fluid system software experience, preferably EcosimPro CAD CFD experience, Solidworks Ansys preferred Additive manufacturing experience Bipropturbomachinery ground testing and qualification including ground support equipment and test facility design Desirable 48 years of rocket engine, fluid systems andor turbomachinery hardware development experience Fluency in use of CAD CFD techniques to model and analyse fluid systems Strong communication skills A flexible and dedicated mindset We are looking for an experienced candidate who can demonstrate he she get things done with a pragmatic attitude and reliable results. Ajilon Technology Aerospace Defense is a specialised Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace defense engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Context of the function The System Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the overall design is aligned with the customer requirements. In all activities he works with the dedicated Core Team Project Lead, Product Assurance System Engineer. The Core Team is the direct link with all Customers and Major Subcontractors and the System Engineer is responsible for all technical aspects of this. In preliminary phases he is involved with Technical TradeOffs and understanding the customer requirements. Once the requirements are well understood the System Engineer works with the RD engineering departments CAD, Structural, Thermal and Electrical to ensure the design is well executed. As part of his activities he must support the design with various dedicated analysis. The System Engineer will be responsible in creating the dedicated engineering documentation with the other Core Team members. Once the design is complete the System Engineer acts as interface to production to ensure the correct design is manufactured. When large supplierssubcontractors are part of the project the System Engineer is responsible for managing all technical aspects of the Subcontract including creation of specifications, review of documentation and test results. During the manufacturing and assembly of the System Engineer offers engineering support in order to allow full assembly to be completed. This includes supporting subassembly testing with procedures, reviewing build data and executing critical design choices. Once assembly is complete the System Engineer is responsible for ensuring the unit is tested accordingly. He will be responsible for the test procedure and ensuring the dedicated Customer requirements are met during testing. On occasions the System Engineer will be directly involved with testing depending on the complexity of the test. Once testing is complete the System Engineer is responsible for preparing the final engineering inputs to the End Item Data Packs and discussing all technical topics with the customer. During the delivery and postdelivery of the hardware the System Engineer will be responsible with closing out all technical question and actions further supporting the customer. Position Summary The Propulsion subsystem engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the spacecraft thrust and manouvering capabilities.. The Propulsion subsystem engineer will be responsible for the definition and procurement of the thrusters and associated equipments. The propulsion engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the spacecraft has sufficient propellant with margin for the mission lifetime including any deorbit or reorbit. Responsibilities Define the Propulsion subsystem in terms of the tradeof between monopropellant, hybrid or electric hall thrusters taking into account the mission parameters. Define the propulsion subsystem in terms of thruster and tanking requirements, fuel load and mass. Liaise with the Program Manager for the procurement of commercial propulsion components and units Liaise with the Structuralmechanical engineer for the placement of thrusters, valves etc. internally and externally. Support the Lead Platform design Engineer on all aspects of the platform design pertaining to propulsion Liaise with the AOCS engineers for propulsion control interfaces and pointing determination Ensure that all platform program documentation for the Propulsion subsystem ICDs, diagrams, budgets etc. is produced. Produce the propellant budget and fuelling procedures. Qualifications and experience Minimum of 2 years professional experience in spacecraft propulsion systems definition and implementation. Strong knowledge of propulsion evolution including electric Hall thrusters, green monopropellant and hybrid systems. Ability and willingness to include latest generation processes and techniques for manufacturing Strong written and verbal communications skills Strong technical background and proven program history Ability to produce spacecraft budgets and specifications Eligible to work in the UK UK security clearance may be sought
