The woman, who already had other serious health issues, died in late August and medical records indicate that salmonella was a "contributing factor," said Carrier Williams, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority honored four ranches on Thursday for their commitment to perpetuating the state's unique paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy, traditions that date back to the early 1800s. Those agricultural bastions - Parker Ranch on the Big Island, Kualoa Ranch on Oahu, Ulupalakua Ranch on Maui and Kipu Ranch on Kauai - were the chosen recipients of the HTA's Tourism Legacy Awards, which are given out each year at the state agency's annual conference at the Hawaii Convention Center.
