India tops 885 million active mobile subscribers

(Telecompaper) India ended July with over 1.009 billion telephone subscribers, which represents a growth of 0.23 percent from June. The total comprises 983.21 million wireless subscribers, up by 2.40 million in the month, and 26.10 million fixed-line subscribers, down by 5,000 in the month. In July, 3.98 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability, according to figures from the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (Trai). The number of active wireless subscribers amounted to 885.15 million at end-July.
