Queensland Competition Authority chairman Malcolm Roberts has been named as the new chief executive of the oil and gas industry lobby group Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association, just ahead of the group's annual conference in Melbourne next week. Dr Roberts, a former chief of staff to Ian Macfarlane, Federal Resources Minister, replaces David Byers, who resigned in March to take up a role with BHP Billiton in policy and government affairs.

Chaney, who most recently served as chairman of Woodside Petroleum, earlier was CEO of the Perth-based conglomerate, which owns Coles supermarkets and the Bunnings homeware chair, serving from 1992 until 2005.
