CF Industries Earnings Show Weak Demand Spans Nitrogen & Potash Fertilizer
2013-11-13 21:39:28| Chemicals - Topix.net
Dealer reluctance to take on price risk has now spread to nitrogen-based fertilizers, with the most likely reason being the drop in corn prices, which is creating some uncertainty about what farm economics will look like in the near future.

Is fall nitrogen application a good choice?
2013-11-08 22:07:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
By Emerson Nafziger, University of Illinois The big question many farmers have is whether or not to apply nitrogen fertilizer this fall or to wait until next spring. The fact that were seeing similar responses to fall- and spring-applied nitrogen would support that most fall-applied nitrogen stayed in the soil and available to this years crop. We are not seeing the unusually large responses to applied nitrogen this year that we would expect to see following high nitrogen losses. read more

Will you apply nitrogen this fall to 2014 corn acres?
2013-11-08 21:07:01| Corn & Soybean Digest
Farmers are finishing up the 2013 harvest, but just because the corn and soybeans are harvested doesn't mean the field work is over for the season. We'd like to know: Will you be in the field this fall applying nitrogen to harvested acres that will be planted to corn next year? If you will be, will you use a nitrogen inhibitor? Or, will you split the application between fall and spring? Take the poll and let us know your nitrogen application plans. Feel free to leave a comment with your plan, and include your county and state. Yes, as soon as soil temps are optimal Yes, and I'll use a nitrogen inhibitor I'll split my application between fall and spring No, I'll apply all nitrogen in the spring Go to result page on submit: 0
Gene research to improve nitrogen efficiency shows promise
2013-11-01 20:56:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
NitroGenes on the horizon The search is on for a super line of corn that powers more yield with less nitrogen. Its been more than 10 years in the making, but researchers have identified nine genes in corn important for nitrogen-use efficiency. These NitroGenes have been shown to impact traits such as stover nitrogen content, grain nitrogen concentration and kernel number. read more
