The SCISYS Space Division delivers a range of projects to its customers, such as the European Space Agency, spanning large scale system developments used to operate satellites to small technology studies involving prototypes. We cover many software and IT aspects of the space and ground segments for spacecraft missions, including monitoring and control, planning, automation, operations data preparation, archives and big data analysis. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, capable and hardworking engineer to join our development team in Bristol as a software developer. This role will include responsibility for implementation of software components in a larger system using Java and customer support for current systems software. We are recruiting for a development phase of a new project that is delivering a mission critical system to operate a fleet of satellites. Initially this role will be under the guidance of the project managers, but over time we expect the successful candidate to grow and take on more responsibility within the Division. The role will generally involve all aspects of the standard software lifecycle Working as part of the team to implement new functionality Performing software builds and testing of the software Updating documentation e.g. user manuals, test documentation as needed Analysis and corrective maintenance of software anomalies Interfacing with the customer and users to discuss problems and changes as needed Travel to the customer site as required to assist with testing, provide training or support Essential skills The candidate must have a software engineering background with development experience in Java. An understanding and appreciation of good software development practices is essential, including the use of source code management systems and project standardsguidelines. The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. It is expected that the role will include some customer interaction, so the successful candidate will be fluent in English and confident in their role in representing the company. Desirable skills Programming within an eclipse environment Knowledge of programming in CC Linux systems Software design and UML Requirements engineering Understanding of verification and validation Knowledge of HLA Whilst not essential, knowledge of spacecraft planning systems would be useful Any other information e.g. dual location, special security clearance, foreign languages Eligible to work in the UK Security Clearance desirable Willing to travel to site Command of another European language in addition to English will be beneficial When applying for this role, your details will be entered into a database for sole use by SCISYS.
