The Big Tech Stories of 2015

Last week, we looked back at the largely untold, or under told, stories of 2014. This week, let's look ahead to some of the stories that are coming in 2015. We'll have robots, self-driving cars, armed autonomous drones, the professional proliferation of head mounted cameras, some scandals, and some interesting political implications. I'll close with my product of the year, which even surprised me.

When Microsoft released the Windows 10 Technical Preview at the start of October, it promised that we'd get lots of rapid updates as it fixes bugs and rolls out new features -- and it wasn't lying! Yesterday, just three weeks after the initial Technical Preview release, Microsoft rolled out the first major update. There are three major new features in Windows 10 build 9841 -- a notification tray, Battery Sense, and Data Sense. In my eyes, though, the most important aspect was that it was really easy to install the new build; you just click a button. With Windows 10, has Microsoft finally tackled the abomination that is the Windows upgrade process?

Tech Has Big Role to Play in Climate Change Battle

The Obama administration once again has trained its spotlight on climate change. The Environmental Protection Agency this week announced a plan to cut carbon pollution, a leading cause of climate change, by an average of 30 percent nationwide by 2030, compared with 2005 levels. Power plants account for 40 percent of carbon pollution, the biggest driver of climate change.
