Google plans press event 4 Oct; Pixel phones expected

(Telecompaper) Google has sent out invitations to the press for an event in San Francisco on 04 October, and the company is expected to announce then a new range of smartphones under the Pixel brand, TechCrunch reports. While the invite only features Google's logo, the company also posted a teaser video and site. The URL for the teaser site is madeby.google.com, suggesting the event will focus on Pixel products, and this is the name used for products made by Google, and not in cooperation with other manufacturers, like the Nexus and Chromebook ranges.

Coolpad, China Baoli JV to develop dual screen mobile phones

(Telecompaper) Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad has entered into a non-legally binding term sheet with China Baoli Technologies, in relation to the proposed formation of a joint venture in China. Coolpad and China Baoli plan to jointly develop dual screen (e-ink screen and colour screen) mobile handsets in China by way of formation of the proposed joint venture. Coolpad will own 49 percent in the JV company, while China Baoli will hold 51 percent of the resulting entity.
