The University of Cincinnati's College of Pharmacy recently added eight assistant professors, and three similar jobs will be created soon in an effort to ramp up research that could benefit local hospitals and firms such as Procter & Gamble Co. Neil MacKinnon , dean of UC's James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy since August 2013, said he thinks it's the largest ever one-time hiring of new faculty in the history of the college, which was established in 1850.

Workers at thousands of Texas businesses who are seriously injured on the job may find it harder to sue their employers for damages after an accident. The Supreme Court of Texas, in a potentially precedent-setting decision issued last week, slammed the courthouse door on damages for many employees hurt while working in hazardous situations.

The Supreme Court recently held that job applicants may hold their potential employer liable for intentional discrimination under Title VII if the applicant can show that his or her need for an accommodation was a motivating factor in the potential employer's decision not to hire that applicant, and it is irrelevant whether the employer had actual knowledge of the need for the accommodation. While the Court's holding was relatively straightforward, its practical import presents additional challenges for employers.
