Telefonica acquires Champions League and Europa League rights from Mediapro

(Telecompaper) Just days after securing the domestic TV rights for Spain's La Liga from 2019 to 2022, Telefonica has reached an agreement with Mediapro to acquire the broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in the residential Spanish market over the next three seasons. As a result, the company now holds all paid football rights for the domestic market. In both cases, the acquisition of the rights allows Telefonica to design and develop the contents for its own channels and for resale to other operators.

Transatel wins German regulatory decision on access to Telefonica data roaming

(Telecompaper) European MVNE Transatel has won an initial ruling from the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) on better access to data roaming services. The regulator ordered Telefonica Germany to submit contracts to Transatel for wholesale roaming services for the Internet of Things (IoT) after Telefonica rejected Transatel's earlier attempts to obtain MVNO and RLAH agreements for the German market.

(Telecompaper) Telefonica announced that it paid EUR 980 million a season for domestic TV rights to air live matches from La Liga over the next three seasons (2019-22). In a statement, the company said it paid over 5 percent less for the rights than in the previous three-year auction, allowing it to control the content broadcast on its Movistar+ pay-TV service and licence its La Liga channels to other operators.
