The V.C. Summer Nuclear Station under construction in South Carolina will employ the same AP1000 reactor design Duke Energy proposes for its W.S. Lee Nuclear station. Duke Energy spent $23.2 million from July through December on planning and pre-construction work for its proposed $11 billion Lee Nuclear Station near Gaffney, S.C. That brings Duke's annual total to nearly $45 million.

The oil and gas industry invested $11.79 million in election-related spending in Colorado ahead of the 2014 general election, according to a new report from Colorado Ethics Watch , a public-issues nonprofit. Colorado Ethics Watch is part of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington , which focuses on "government officials who sacrifice the common good to special interests," according to its website.

Released by U.S. EPA, risk assessment concludes silica-based spent foundry sands from iron, steel, and aluminum foundries, when used in certain soil-related applications, are protective of human health and environment and yield environmental benefits. EPA's Mathy Stanislaus noted "environmentally sound, beneficial use of industrial materials...provides substantial opportunities for addressing climate change and air quality," which promotes partnerships, costs reduction, and sustainable future.
