Responsibilities You will report to the head of the Robotics and Future Projects office, in the Directorate of the Human Spaceflight and Operations. The scope of this post includes Operations engineering for ESAs robotic contributions to the International Space Station ISS such as the European Robotic Arm ERA, Multipurpose End To End Robotics Operations Network METERON, and other similar future projects such as technology demonstrations on ISS. Liaising with the European Astronauts Centre EAC in Cologne, Germany the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre GCTC and RSC Energia, Moscow, Russia, for instructor and crew training issues, including maintenance of the ERA Astronaut Training Database ATD. Software management andor inhouse rapid software prototyping for these projects. Logistics organisation for ERA integration and launch campaign, Meteron experiments, and test campaigns in analogue sites field tests. Performance of system definition studies for future human exploration developments. Support the Office and Division in other tasks as required. The anticipated initial activities will cover Conducting User Level Acceptance Tests and ERA mission simulation development. The Sample Fetch Rover is a possible contribution of ESA to the NASA led Mars Sample Return campaign aiming at bringing back to Earth Martian samples by the end of the next decade. The rover will have to perform a long traverse to autonomously fetch the sample tubes and bring them back to the Mars Ascent Vehicle. After being placed into orbit, the samples will be captured by the Mars Earth Return Orbiter and brought back to Earth. The service will support the phase AB1 of the Sample Fetch Rover, with particular emphasis on the rover robotic arm and autonomous fetching vision based system for the rover. Robotics technology related to the Mars Sample Return Facility, in particular related to haptics control and teleoperations will also be considered. The service will also take part in the development and implementation of HRAF with a particular focus on the distributed simulation, modelling and archiving capabilities of the concept. It will also provide support to technology development activities for the ESA Exploration Programme. The service will also participate in the development of the Spaceship ECSAT, a new enterprise of the Exploration Programme which is dedicated to initiate lowTRL activities for autonomous systems in collaboration with industryinstitutes. Specific Tasks Support to the SFR phase AB1 and breadboard activities with focus robotic arm Support to ongoing technology development activities related to Robotic Exploration, with particular focus on robotic arm and manipulation applications.
