Your future duties and responsibilities You will join a team specialised in one of the following areas Spacecraft Orbit Determination and Control Spacecraft Attitude Monitoring and Control Spacecraft Command Generation The Flight Dynamics team members perform all operational activities related to controlling the spacecraft orbit and attitude. As team member you will be involved with the complete systems and operational lifecycle for the actual spacecraft operations, ranging from early capturing of requirements, to design, implementation and testing of the flight dynamics systems tools and finally with performing actual critical for example, launch and routine operations. The Flight Dynamics team members are usually involved in many satellite missions at the same time which means you combine development of new systems for upcoming missions with critical andor routine operations for active satellites in space. The work in Flight Dynamics is continuously changing, challenging and highly technical. The working environment is completely panEuropean and very dynamic. The working language is English. Required qualifications to be successful in this role The following expertise will be valuable Applied mathematics, classical mechanics Attitude and Orbit Control Systems sensors actuators Orbit determination using tracking data or GPS, filtering batch least squares method, Orbit planning and control, Control theory Optimisation Fortran, Matlab, Mathematica, script languages UnixLinux The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. The Flight Dynamics Mission Analyst will work on the Flight Dynamics Team to perform longterm and nearterm operational analysis for OneWebs constellation of satellites. The candidate should have a solid understanding and be comfortable with planning maneuvers to target changes to orbital elements. DUTIES Manage the FLO Division and its allocated resources and ensure key competencies in flight operations are maintained and developed as required PlanCoordinate all routine, contingency and decommissioningdisposal operations of the fleet of satellites operated by EUMETSAT for its own purpose or Copernicus, and the associated flight operations ground segment systems Supervise or follow up investigations of major inorbit or flight operations ground segment anomalies or failure, and related interactions with industry and partner agencies, e.g. ESA, NOAA, CNES, DLR Support the operations preparation of new satellite systems under development, including Meteosat Third Generation, EPSSecond Generation and JasonCSSentinel6 s Plancoordinate operations preparation activities for recurrent satellites including MTG, EPSSG, JasonCS and Sentinel3 spacecraft Interface with managers within other EUMETSAT departments and from operations partners to ensure coordination of flight operations with other operations and operations preparation activities Manage each EUMETSAT programme after the handover of the last recurrent satellite and until programme closure, and, with the support of the administration department, be responsible for programme closure Deputise for the Director of Operations and Services to Users. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A5A6 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 9 319 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable based on skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
