Apple violated antitrust laws by colluding with publishers to raise electronic book prices when it entered a market in 2010 that had been dominated by Amazon.com, a federal appeals court said Tuesday. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled 2-to-1 that a lower court judge was right to find Apple Inc. violated the laws to upset Amazon.com Inc.'s control of the market.

On June 29, 2015, Sysco Corp. announced that it was pulling the plug on its $3.5 billion proposed merger with US Foods Inc. The news comes less than a week after a Washington, D.C., federal judge concluded that the Federal Trade Commission likely could prove that the merger would thwart competition. In February, the FTC sued to block the transaction, citing as the key issue the fact that the two companies were the top broadline food distributors in the country and the only two players capable of servicing customers that operate nationwide.

AT&T said to win antitrust approval for DirecTV with FCC pending

AT&T's $48.5 billion deal to buy DirecTV is set to be cleared by U.S. antitrust officials without any conditions, said a person familiar with deliberations by the Justice Department. The merger still needs approval from the Federal Communications Commission, which could demand concessions such as following the agency's net neutrality rules.
