2014-03-25 10:44:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) In an effort to promote Glass as a regular consumer product, Google is to partner with Italy's Luxottica group, maker of Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses. Luxottica announced that it would design, develop and distribute new kinds of eyeware for Google's internet-connected Glass product and that its two major brands, Ray-Ban and Oakley, would be part of the deal. No further details or financial terms were disclosed. Speaking to Italian daily La Repubblica, Luxottica CEO Andrea Guerra said that the company was already working on the new glasses in Italy, China and the US, and that they would be ready to hit the market in 2015. "Google Glass has been an open-air lab, a starting point that will allow us to create glasses that can be worn with serenity, ease and lightness," he commented. "Luxottica understands how to build, distribute, and sell great products that their clients and consumers love something we care deeply about at Glass, too," added Google in a post on the Glass Google+ page. "They'll bring design and manufacturing expertise to the mix, and, together, we'll bring even more Glass style choices to our Explorers."
