AWS to open three data centres in Spain by 2022

(Telecompaper) Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to open three new data centre hosting facilities in Spain to help local and EU customers meet data capacity demand as well as residency and privacy requirements. The decision means Spain will become the company's seventh infrastructure region in Europe alongside France, Germany, Ireland, the UK, Sweden and Italy when it opens in late 2022 or early 2023. AWS currently has 69 "Availability Zones" or data centres across 22 infrastructure regions worldwide.
Spain hits 9.6 million active FTTH lines in August

(Telecompaper) A total of 112,000 fibre to the home (FTTH) lines were added in Spain in August to increase the number of active connections in the country to 9.6 million, according to the latest monthly update from regulator CNMC. Fibre lines rose by 1.8 million year on year, offsetting a 1.2 million decline in DSL lines, said the watchdog. HFC lines totalled 2.3 million, down around 147,000 year on year, bringing the fixed broadband total to 15.03 million, up from 14.56 million a year earlier.

(Telecompaper) MasMovil was the biggest winner in Europe's telecoms sector, last week, up 22 percent. Our European Telecoms Services index closed week 40 with a small loss of 0.8 percent, beating the EuroStoxx 50 index which was down 2.8 percent. The weakest stocks included micro caps Forthnet, down 11 percent, and Go Internet, losing 8.6% after reporting its H1 results.
Masmovil, Orange Spain reach 5G sharing deal in 40 cities

(Telecompaper) Spanish operator Masmovil has announced an expanded agreement with Orange Spain to enable the faster rollout of 5G infrastructure and to significantly increase its fibre-optic footprint. Under the terms of the deal, Masmovil said it will benefit from the deployment of 5G networks in up to 4,500 locations covering around 35 percent of the population. This includes the country's 40 largest cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga and Bilbao where the highest consumption of such services is expected.
