Apparel exports from Bangladesh have remained very strong in the first quarter this year, although with different results depending on destinations. Exports to the French and US markets have recovered, whereas shipments were further surging to Japan. Unit prices have been kept under control as the sharp rise of labor costs has not yet been taken into account. Our statistical series provide a comprehensive view of Bangladesh's clothing exports in the 1st quarter 2015-2019, including volume, value, and unit value changes per destination. A set of indices offers a 4-year approach. Knit, woven, and total apparel exports are separately displayed. All data are available for download.

Bangladesh and Cambodia both enjoyed a boost in apparel shipments to the US during May - at around the same time US President Donald Trump said he was mulling a tariff hike on all incoming Chinese goods. While US imports from China also continued to rise during the month, a spike in shipments from neighbouring countries suggests retailers and brands are moving forward with plans to cut back on how much product they source from the Southeast Asian giant.
