Dutch broadband grows 0.3% in Q1, KPN slightly loses market share

(Telecompaper) The Dutch market for fixed broadband has grown by 0.3 percent during the first quarter of 2018 to reach 7.44 million connections, according to Telecompaper's quarterly report on the broadband market. The number of cable and fibre broadband connections grew enough to off-set the continued decrease in DSL (copper) broadband lines. Number two KPN lost customers and market shares during the quarter.

KPN to stop OTT TV service due to lack of demand

(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN announced it's ending its OTT TV service KPN Play from 02 July. The company said there was insufficient demand for the service so it has decided to stop offering it. Telecompaper estimates the service launched in 2015 has attracted only around 10,000 subscribers. Rival T-Mobile has also abandoned its OTT TV service Knippr.
KPN announces 4 field trials for 5G services

(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN announced the opening of four test labs with partners to work on 5G development based on 3GPP standards. These are the Dutch operator's first major announcements on 5G. The trial locations are the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, a farm in the northern town of Valthermond (Drenthe), the port of Rotterdam, and two motorway stretches in the south of the country.

Incoming CEO Ibarra starts work at KPN as adviser

(Telecompaper) Maximo Ibarra has started work at KPN, first as adviser before taking over as CEO from mid-April. As announced earlier, he will replace Eelco Blok as CEO after the Dutch operator's AGM on 18 April. Until then, he will work with the management to ensure a smooth transition.
