KPN grows market share to 28% of Dutch TV subscriptions
2015-12-11 08:55:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) KPN continues to grow its share of the Dutch TV market, at the expense of cable operator Ziggo. KPN added 0.4 percentage points in the third quarter to take 28 percent of subscribers, while Ziggo lost 0.5 percent points for a share of 52.8 percent, according to Telecompaper's latest quarterly report on the Dutch Television Market. Ziggo is struggling to halt the steady decline in cable's market share, according to the researchers. Its new Ziggo Sport channel, launched exclusively for Ziggo TV subscribers, is expected to help slow its loss of customers and could provide a boost to growth in digital TV subscribers.

Vodafone Netherlands sues KPN over delay in fixed access
2015-12-10 08:40:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Vodafone Netherlands is suing KPN for anti-competitive behaviour, saying the Dutch incumbent prevented Vodafone from entering the triple-play market for several years. Vodafone claims EUR 115 million in damages due to KPN obstructing its access to key network technology in 2011-2014 and hence slowing the launch of the 'Vodafone Thuis' (Vodafone at Home) offer. Vodafone filed its suit at the court in The Hague, claiming KPN abused its dominant market position, and was able to build up a significant customer base in the triple-play market in recent years while it kept rivals out of the market. Vodafone said KPN repeatedly did not meet its obligations to deliver technology needed for Vodafone's fixed offer. KPN owns the only DSL network in the country and the main FTTH network.

KPN, Proximus potential Orange takeover targets - report
2015-12-09 08:35:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN and Belgium's Proximus are among the potential takeover targets for Orange, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. Orange is weighing multiple acquisition targets in France and in Europe, to build scale and to avoid becoming a target itself, according to the report. As reported previously, it's also looking at Bouygues Telecom and Telecom Italia as possible takeover candidates. However, the search for takeovers is still preliminary, and no deal is imminent. Orange wants to "swallow rather than be swallowed," said one person close to the company.
