A vacancy has arisen for a Geographic Information Technical Solutions Manager with Airbus Defence and Space in Farnborough, UK. a You will be responsible for the direction of the Geographic Information Strategy within the Company and the operational management and delivery of this strategy within a solutions environment. b It is expected that the role will be part of a team engaged in solution design and support for the implementation and management of GIS services for both prospective Customers and existing Customers with usage, system and GIS related business requirements identification. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows a As GIS Technical Authority, to provide input to Corporate strategy for technical GI design in conjunction with Business, Operations, Delivery and Innovations Management Teams b To provide GIS expertise in the fields of hosting, data management, web delivery and GIS applications and sharing knowledge appropriately. c Develop, prepare and deliver Customer presentations workshops to demonstrate the Companys GI Technical Competence at both presales and project stages. d Advise GEO Intelligence on geospatial policy and development as and when requested. e In partnership with the technical specialists within GEO Intelligence seek to develop new and innovative solutions to current and future business and client needs necessary for the Company to remain competitive. f To provide guidance and management of the GI Technical resources through the whole project lifecycle in accordance with Airbus Defence and Space quality standards. g To guide or define changes to strategy as required by changes in the environment or lessons learnt with the GI Technical Delivery. h Carry out Customer Meetings as GI Technical Authority with ability to interact and influence technical and nontechnical staff. i To represent the Company on project teams to ensure the best possible advice is given regarding the delivery and implementation of the GI Project Solution. j To maintain awareness of and develop GIS and EO technologies and techniques relevant to the Company, with special relevance to Airbus Defence and Spaces future position within that industry. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience I Required Experience a Proven strong track record of Geographic Information GI Solution Delivery within a commercial environment, b Knowledge and experience of the government sector would be an advantage, c Experience in resource planning and recruitment of staff with GI Technical background, d Experience conducting regular staff communication meetings for information dissemination, e Experience managing subcontractors. II JobTechnical Knowledge a Advanced knowledge of all GI data and Data Modelling techniques. b Good understanding of Geospatial Standards e.g. OGC, WMS, WFS standards within a GIS environment and experience in their application, configuration and deployment. c Knowledge and understanding of INSPIRE and GIS within a service oriented architecture approach. d Demonstrable technical experience of web based GIS services and applications using ESRI ArcGIS Server andor ArcIMS. e Specific knowledge of database management systems Oracle and or SQL Server for managing spatial data preferably with ArcSDE experience. III Qualifications a A Masters degree in relevant business subject or equivalent experiencetraining. IV General a Proven ability to communicate effectively to staff, management and customers, b Ability to deliver technical presentations to internal and external audiences, c Ability to work as part of a team as well as working in an independent discipline. V IT SkillsTools a Specific experience of advanced level usage of at least one of the following desktop GIS application ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo, Cadcorp SIS others will be considered. b Familiarity with ETL software, specifically Safe software FME FME Server would be an advantage. c Development experience with ArcObjects, VB.Net, java, python or java script. d Web technologies. Zu dieser wegweisenden Entscheidung maßgeblich beigetragen hat ein Artikel des US-Bestseller-Autors Jonathan Franzen im Magazin National Geographic. Kürzlich hat Albanien einen zweijährigen Jagdbann für das gesamte Land beschlossen (wir berichteten). Die Regierung will diese Auszeit nutzen, um Wildtiere und Zugvögel besser vor Wilderei zu schützen. Zu dieser wegweisenden Entscheidung maßgeblich beigetragen hat ein Artikel des US-Bestseller-Autors Jonathan Franzen, der in der Juliausgabe 2013 des Magazins National Geographic veröffentlicht wurde. Im Frühjahr 2012 war Franzen mit dem im August des gleichen Jahres verstorbenen EuroNatur-Projektleiter Dr. Martin Schneider-Jacoby und dem Fotografen David Guttenfelder zwei Wochen lang auf Recherchereise in allen wichtigen Rastgebieten entlang der östlichen Adriaküste unterwegs - vom Karavasta-Nationalpark in Albanien bis zum Neretva-Delta in Kroatien. Er sprach mit Jägern, beobachtete illegale Jagdpraktiken und beleuchtete die Hintergründe der Vogeljagd auf dem Balkan. Der Beitrag Letztes Lied für Zugvögel zeigte auf eindrückliche Weise, wie die Vogeljagd an der östlichen Adria aufwändige Schutzprogramme in den Brutgebieten der Zugvögel konsequent zunichtemacht. Der Artikel wurde in den zuständigen Ministerien verbreitet und sehr positiv aufgenommen, sagte Spase Shumka, Präsident der albanischen EuroNatur-Partnerorganisation PPNEA gegenüber National Geographic.
