Are you an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer willing to support flight operations of the Metop satellites and the development and operations preparation of future LEO satellite systems? EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 Member States, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, ocean and climate that deliver information 24 hours a day. Our data is vital to weather forecasts that enable us to protect lives and property as well as monitoring the changing climate. EUMETSAT is now developing the next generation of satellite systems, shaping its longterm future. We are inviting applications from experienced engineers keen to work with highly advanced satellite technology in a dynamic operational environment. We are recruiting for 3 positions that will provide suitable candidates the opportunity to support the preparation of operations for the future LEO satellite systems, in particular EPSMetopSecond Generation and JasonCSSentinel 6. In addition you will support routine flight operations of the existing Metop satellites. The roles are currently split into the following areas of responsibility Coordinator for OnBoard Software Management and Simulator Operations and first line Maintenance for multiple LEO missions Payload Operations Coordinator on Metop first generation and backup Coordinator for Metop Second Generation with direct responsibility for certain instruments Payload Operations Coordinator on Metop Second Generation and backup Coordinator for Metop first generation with direct responsibility for certain instruments In each of the roles you will be required to coordinate and participate in flight operations for up to three Metop satellites and up to three Sentinel3 satellites, including the organisation and execution of special operations phases. You will also be part of the on call schedule to respond to operational issues. Coordinating incident reviews and improvement activities, in close collaboration with other engineers, would be a crucial part of your role. Defining and managing support from external industry experts and interfacing with them directly and with other partner agencies in coordination meetings, reporting activities and anomaly reviews will form part of your daytoday work. In addition you will participate in launch preparation and inorbit commissioning activities for MetopC and in the development and testing of procedures and operations, getting involved in training where necessary. Along with a university degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent, you should be able to demonstrate the following significant professional experience in the field of flight operations, preferably gained during the development or operations of a LEO space system experience interfacing with external entities, coupled with good interpersonal skills ability to work in a clear, structured manner with a minimum of supervision ability to detail and synthesise complex technical concepts in formal documents and verbal presentations Evidence of personal initiative and ability to achieve results in your professional experience would be considered desirable, as would any supervisory experience. We have 2 roles that will provide suitable candidates the opportunity to support the preparation of operations of the future Meteosat Third Generation MTG satellites for the imaging mission MTGI satellites and the sounding mission MTGS satellites. In addition they will support routine operations of Meteosat Second Generation MSG and MTG satellites. Along with a university degree or equivalent in an aerospace or engineering discipline, you should be able to demonstrate the following significant professional experience in the field of satellite operations, preferably gained during the development or operation of a geostationary space system a clear understanding of the implications for future routine operations of decisions taken during the development phase excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams attention to detail and the ability to synthesise technical concepts in formal documents and verbal presentations excellent organisational and timemanagement capabilities including ability to work under stress and to meet tight deadlines an independent worker with the motivation to follow through a number of different tasks with minimum supervision and ensure their completion to a quality standard Previous experience in satellite ground segment operations preparation, satellite design, test validation activities and knowledge of satellite system design andor of satellite monitoring and control principles would be considered an advantage. We have been gathering information from satellites for over 30 years and want to use this data to best effect. As a result, two opportunities have arisen to join the busy Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area to provide us with technical support to design and develop new processing systems used for climate activities as well as to reprocess our significant amount of climate data. Your responsibilities will include defining and managing requirements for climate processing and reprocessing systems, identifying and delivering the evolving needs of users. Leading the engineering and procurement activities, you will be pivotal in the implementation of these systems. You will be involved in testing and rollout. Additionally you will support operations and management in defining longterm plans to harmonise data processing systems across all EUMETSAT satellite systems.
