A committee formed six years ago to unite the Great Lakes region with a comprehensive plan to fend off destructive Asian carp has outlined $60 million in projects in a report released this week. The Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee, made up of U.S. and Canadian officials at federal, state, and provincial levels, said $16 million of the costs will be covered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, a program President Obama created after taking office in 2009 to help infuse the Great Lakes region with more money for cleanup and restoration projects.
