We are currently looking for a Hyperspectral Infrared Sounding Engineer to support our customer in Germany. Hyperspectral Infrared Sounding Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users. You will have the following responsibilities Release and validation of new versions of the operational IASI L2 Product Processing Facility Integration and verification of external software deliveries in the operational ground segment and in the prototype processors of the future missions Software anomaly fixing Development and documentation of prototype software and test procedures Generation of test data Statistical analysis and visualisation of hyperspectral infrared Level 2 products Support the transfer of the IASI expertise to future hyperspectral infrared missions MTGIRS and IASING Retrieval algorithm specification, validation and tuning. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in computer science or other relevant discipline Experience with numerical algorithms and mathematical modelling techniques Experience in development and testing of complex scientific software and handling and processing of big amounts of data Knowledge of object oriented techniques for scientific computing and software tools for revision control Knowledge of programming languages and tools e.g. C, Java, Python, Ruby Knowledge of satellite data analysis and visualisation Experience with hyperspectral infrared instrument satellite data, preferably IASI Experience with inverse problems and principal component analysis Experienced user of radiative transfer models and retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Specifically, the Key Person shall have experience and skills in Numerical algorithms Development and testing of complex scientific software Handling and processing of big amounts of data Object oriented techniques for scientific computing Software tools for revision control Very good skills in a high level programming language, preferably C Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like Matlab, IDL or equivalent preferably with satellite data Experience in some of the following areas is expected Inverse problems Principal component analysis Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Data formats and libraries such as HDF5 and NetCDF Software testing Validation and visualization of satellite products Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines Experience with further programming languages and tools such as Python, Ruby, Java, etc. Multithreads programming The Key Person shall have good interpersonal skills. The ability to pay attention to details is mandatory, especially in the context of thorough software verification before operational release.
