Mashable: Humans are not just loading the dice in favor of extreme weather events, as many scientific studies have shown. They are also changing the characteristics and impacts of those events, be it in the form of an unprecedentedly strong and extremely deadly Typhoon Haiyan or the damaging Boulder, Colorado, floods of 2013. The way that scientists have been probing extreme events for human fingerprints is flawed, however, because it underestimates the influence that global warming is playing, argues a...

Past 12 Months Tied for Warmest on Record
2015-05-19 23:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: April capped a 12-month period that tied the warmest such stretch on record, according to data released Tuesday. That period, going back to May 2014, tied the previous record holder, the 12 months from April 2014 to March 2015. Of the 10 warmest 12-month periods on record, nine occurred in the past two years, most of them in back-to-back stretches. The clustering of such warm periods is a marker of how much global temperatures have risen thanks to the human-driven buildup of heat-trapping gases...
