Woodside Petroleum has called for a resolution between Australian and East Timor of the renewed uncertainty over the administration of the Sunrise gas resource in the Timor Sea as it seeks to break the stalemate around its long-stalled $US13 billion Sunrise gas project. Woodside said settling the issues around the management of the Sunrise resource "would provide more certainty to investors and could potentially advance the development of Greater Sunrise".

Woodside in gas dispute with China

Woodside Petroleum has been accused of holding back natural gas shipments from China in an effort to lift the price of a 25-year supply contract. The energy company and its partners in the North West Shelf Gas consortium have reportedly withheld eight gas shipments covered by the contract since 2011, according to the Australian Financial Review.

Woodside Petroleum's $US2.75 billion deal to buy Apache Corporation's liquefied natural gas interests is being scrutinised by the competition watchdog, which is studying whether it may affect wholesale gas supply and prices in Western Australia. The transaction, announced in December, would have Woodside take Apache's stake in Chevron's $US29 billion Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project in WA, as well as its interest in the Balnaves oil field in the Carnarvon Basin.
