For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Dissemination Systems and Software Architect fm at Eumetsat. Tasks As a member of the Dissemination Services Team within the Maintenance and Engineering Division, the Consultant shall provide support to the maintenance activities of the dissemination systems. The focus is evenly split between support on the evolution of the dissemination software applications, systems, related documentation and the support to routine maintenance activities including some software developments. In particular the tasks will include Analysis of software and facility architectures with respect to their migration to new technologies and architectures, and to modern solutions Preparation, validation, and maintenance of ground segment maintenance and operational procedures and technical documentation Support to the routine maintenance of the systems, by monitoring the performance, maintaining data flows and, in case of anomalies, identifying and applying appropriate firstline corrective actions. This task requires the provision of standby and callout support out of normal working hours. Investigations into system anomalies that impact the data dissemination services and the provision of corrective solutions Design, implementation and testing of corrections and improvements. This may require the analysis of user requirements, the specification, development and implementation of software, and the generation and maintenance of related technical documentation. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have a software engineering background and spanned the expertise clearly into related system architectures and maintenance of applications used for large scale operational nearreal time missions using file transfer technologies. Knowledge and experience of the following applied in a 247 environment is mandatory Expert knowledge in development and maintenance of medium to large size applications Expert knowledge and proven application of development using Java, Perl, operating system scripting languages, and XML technologies Expert knowledge of modern system architectures in the area of realtime data services and file based data delivery Handson experience in a number of large scale software and facility migrations Source code version control, preferably using Subversion or ClearCase Configuration Management processes anomaly tracking, change control, patching, releasing Formalised Software Testing Very good skills in writing technical documentation Very good communication, presentation and team working skills combined with the ability to perform under high workloads The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and the proven ability to obtain a system overview The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills, as well as good communication skills. Tasks The Storage Network Infrastructure SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all programs maintained by the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, unified under a management framework. It satisfies storage service requirements in terms of size, performance, redundancy, availability, security, supports meteorological archive, data protection and disaster recovery. It consists of a few core subsystems that interact with each other through welldefined and controlled interfaces. The SNI facility belongs to the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division GSI, responsible of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. Consultancy support is required for Storage Networks and Systems Administration. The Key person shall work in the TSS Department GSI Division team supporting routine operations. As a member of a Storage Network Infrastructure team, the Key person shall provide support to the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The duties include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage and computing services. The Key person shall perform the following tasks monitoring of the facility services, computing, storage, backup and archive performance, investigation into HW and SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between computing and storage subsystems implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of associated technical documentation provision of support to design future evolution of the facility to accommodate the requirements of current and future programs, generation and maintenance of associated documentation provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations Essential requirements The Key person shall have, as mandatory, the following experience and background In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, the Key person shall have minimum of 5 years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage and computing systems. Tasks Consultancy support for a satellite Monitoring Control Subsystem MCS Engineer is required as part of the MTG ground segment team. The key person will be organisationally based in the Geostationary Orbit GEO Division as a member of the Mission Operations System team.
