For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Dissemination Systems and Software Architect fm at Eumetsat. Tasks As a member of the Dissemination Services Team within the Maintenance and Engineering Division, the Consultant shall provide support to the maintenance activities of the dissemination systems. The focus is evenly split between support on the evolution of the dissemination software applications, systems, related documentation and the support to routine maintenance activities including some software developments. In particular the tasks will include Analysis of software and facility architectures with respect to their migration to new technologies and architectures, and to modern solutions Preparation, validation, and maintenance of ground segment maintenance and operational procedures and technical documentation Support to the routine maintenance of the systems, by monitoring the performance, maintaining data flows and, in case of anomalies, identifying and applying appropriate firstline corrective actions. This task requires the provision of standby and callout support out of normal working hours. Tasks The Storage Network Infrastructure SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all programs maintained by the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, unified under a management framework. It satisfies storage service requirements in terms of size, performance, redundancy, availability, security, supports meteorological archive, data protection and disaster recovery. It consists of a few core subsystems that interact with each other through welldefined and controlled interfaces. The SNI facility belongs to the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division GSI, responsible of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. Consultancy support is required for Storage Networks and Systems Administration. The Key person shall work in the TSS Department GSI Division team supporting routine operations. As a member of a Storage Network Infrastructure team, the Key person shall provide support to the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The duties include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage and computing services. Tasks The objective of the service support to be provided is to continue development of the Herschel Science Data Processing system by designing, implementing, maintaining, testing and documenting data analysis modules written in Java and Jython on a Linux platform. This software is developed jointly between ESA, the three Herschel instrument teams and the NASA Herschel Science Center, with ESA coordinating the overall development and providing the framework within which the instrument teams can develop and optimise instrumentspecific data reduction algorithms. The Herschel Data Processing System serves both as the basis to generate standard pipeline products and as tool to analyse Herschel data interactively. The Herschel Data Processing System is distributed to the astronomical community.
