The largest electric utility in Kansas says it will retire small generating units in three communities by the end of the year and is citing new federal environmental regulations as one reason. Westar Energy announced Tuesday that it will shut down one coal-fired unit each in Lawrence and Tecumseh, east of Topeka, as well as a gas-fired unit in Hutchinson.

United Press International: Residents of northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas woke to rumbles early Saturday morning, the reverberations of a slipping fault. The earthquake, which struck at 4:20 a.m. local time, registered 4.4 on the Richter Scale. Its epicenter was located 11 miles from Medford, Okla., a small town not far from the Kansas border. Kansas to outsource new, used vehicle dealer title services in January

The state of Kansas is preparing to save an estimated $200,000 annually by outsourcing vehicle title work on behalf of new and used automobile dealers, officials said Monday. General title services will continue to be available to individuals in county offices, but the bulk of dealer transactions handled by the Kansas Department of Revenue's office in the Docking State Office Building in Topeka will be managed by the Kansas Automobile Dealers Association.
