Microsoft has changed its Flash policies for Windows 8 and switched from a whitelist to blacklist policy. Instead of only allowing approved apps, the new strategy is to blacklist just the handful of apps that won't work -- but the change comes too late to help public perceptions of Windows RT.

Oracle updates NetBeans for HTML5

With the release of version 7.3 of NetBeans, Oracle has updated the IDE (integrated developer environment) so Java developers can more easily build rich HTML5-based user interfaces for their mobile and Web applications. NetBeans 7.3 "allows developers to use the same IDE [to compose in] HTML5 that they would use for building back-end services that their Web and mobile applications would connect to," said Bill Pataky, Oracle vice president of product management of tools and frameworks.

Fujitsu developing HTML5 app platform for enterprise security

Engineers at Fujitsu Laboratories are developing an HTML5-based platform for smartphones that designed to keep corporate data secure when accessed from employee-owned handsets. The system, which Fujitsu plans to launch later this year, is one of a number that addresses this increasingly common problem: how to allow workers access to corporate IT systems while avoiding deliberate or inadvertent leaks of data from devices that are not totally under the company's control.
