Telecom Satellite Payload Engineer Quantum Project

For one of our main customers ESA, we are currently looking for a Telecom Satellite Payload Engineer, who will give support to the Quantum Project located at ECSAT in Oxfordshire, UK. Tasks and Responsibilities The Payload Engineer reports primarily to the Quantum Payload Manager in the Telecommunications and Integrated Applications Directorate, Telecommunication Satellite Programmes Department and will be responsible for monitoring various performances and engineering aspects of satellite payloads. Monitoring payload units development, integration and testing Monitoring the coherent and costeffective implementation of payload requirements from system level down to the lower application level Working in Partnership with Satellite Operators to ensure that the payload equipment development proceeds in a timely and pragmatic manner whilst maintaining the original innovative nature of the payload Working with the industrial team to ensure that the design and performance of payload meets its specified requirements, including software, subsystem and unit performances Analysing predicted performance parameters of payload and monitoring these throughout the project phases Ensuring the adequacy of relevant operational requirements to control and operate the payload Supporting payload and lowerlevel reviews, as well as supporting spacecraft level reviews and any nonconformance reviews Regular reporting to his programme Payload Manager In the execution of the tasks, the Payload Engineer will liaise closely and proactively with the rest of the Quantum Project team as well as with other Project Teams within the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department. Experience and education Applicants for this post should have a Master degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics, together with substantial experience minimum of 4 years in Designing and developing of one or more onboard RF equipment including LNAs, frequency converters, channel amplifiers, digital processor, multiplexers, filters, EPCs and satellite antennas. Systems and strategic thinking, results orientation, responsible risktaking decisionmaking, and relationship management are considered important. Applicants should be able to work well in a team and communicate effectively. The successful candidate should demonstrate proven technical capabilities, in particular in the mechanicalstructural engineering field, and the capacity to apply analytical and sound judgment to resolve problems pragmatically. The Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Proficient in English knowledge of another ESA member state language is an asset. NIST Experiment adds to quantum computing capabilities.

Experiment performed by physicists at NIST, as described in "Multi-element logic gates for trapped ion qubits" in December 17, 2015 issue of Nature, involved manipulation of one magnesium and one beryllium ion (charged atom) confined in custom trap. Using 2 sets of laser beams to entangle 2 ions, scientists also performed 2 types of logic operations: a controlled NOT (CNOT) gate and SWAP gate. Possible applications include performing logic operations for quantum computers.
