Korean drivers are expected to file a class-action lawsuit against some foreign auto brands, such as Volkswagen, over their decisions not to offer any tax refunds, industry sources said Monday. Last week, the automakers, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, decided not to offer any tax refunds to their customers, claiming that the government's tax cut had already been reflected in their ramped-up sales promotions and automobiles' price tags.

The global impact of feeding the country has been estimated for the first time, revealing that 64 per cent of associated greenhouse gases are emitted abroad. Reflecting global economic woes, the Korean car market is expected to shrink this year, but with robust sales in the sport utility vehicle sector, a local think tank has suggested. "This year, a total of 1.76 million units of cars are expected to be sold in Korea, which is about 3.1 percent down from 1.82 million in 2015," said Park Hong-jae, chief of the Korea Automotive Research Institute.
