BBM Money signs up 60,000 users

(Telecompaper) Monitise announced that the new BBM Money service in Indonesia has signed up over 60,000 customers since launching at the end of February. The P2P mobile payments service based on BlackBerry Messenger was launched with its local partner Astra International in cooperation with PermataBank and BlackBerry. It targets 200,000 customers by the end of this year. BBM Money allows users to set up a mobile money account and transfer funds to other contacts on BBM and bank accounts, as well as buy top-ups. A bank account is not needed to access the service. BlackBerry is the leading smartphone brand in Indonesia, accounting for over half of all smartphones sold there.
