North Broadway Elementary School opened 35 years ago in Escondido, Calif., and in 1983, the $3 million, 42,000-square-foot campus was one of the educational facility designs that received a citation in American School & University's first-ever Architectural Portfolio competition. Jurors singled out the school for its "dynamic composition of forms and colors."
