Engineer, Software Luxembourg Betzdorf Role Description Summary This position will primarily support the preparation of technical proposals in response to international tenders and is directly responsible for the design, specification and implementation of the communication, networking and ground segment software system required for the satellite and hybrid communication systems. The incumbent will lead and contribute to the development, implementation, and improvement of groundbased services and software systems. Key activities include the collection of SES customer requirements, the engineering of communications systems, the preparation of technical studies, reports, specifications, contractual documentation and operational guidelines and the coordination of multidisciplinary and multicultural project technical teams while working with SES internal and external customers and partners. The incumbent will be responsible to attract new projects for SES and SES Global Government in cooperation with the Sales team, heshe will lead and contribute to the preparation of tenders and proposals. Primary Responsibilities Key Result Areas Lead or contribute to the delivery of multidisciplinary projects and services to international customers within the agreed budget, specification and schedule, meaning Support the design and implementation of system architecture and development work, including project control functions Support the specification, design, implementation, validation and verification of the software systems and networking facilities required Ensure the supervision of specification, design, and development work necessary for project implementation, including project control functions Be responsible for the design and implementation of softwarecomputer infrastructure andor modifications to comply with specific customer requirements such as their standards, interfaces and software and hardware technologies Interface customer and prepare the commercial documentation such as system requirements specifications, technical system specifications, cost estimations and contractual documents in coordination with other internal and external parties Perform system design, handle budgets, handle procurements, manage installations and the operational handover of software systems In coordination with the Service Management team, ensure the Third Level Customer Support for the delivered system Followup technology development in the area of expertise and make recommendations regarding evolution of SES, SES Networks and SES Techcom Services services and products Interface and engage with external partners e.g. customers, NGOs, Government bodies, investment partners, vendors, shareholders, etc. Followup of delivered systems during lifetime operations Take an active part in SES Global Government Services proposal activities through the provision of Technical Specifications, Statement of Works SOWs and Cost Estimations and contractual documents, in response to customer Requests For Information RFI customer Requests For Proposals RFP, in coordination with other engineers, internal and external parties Support the coordination with other functions Project Control, Legal, Finance, IT for the transparent and effective realization of assigned projects Awareness and evaluation of relevant technological developments, market trends, competitive factors, customer requirements, standardisation licensing and regulatory aspects Proactively scopes the technical solution required to address customer requirements, assesses customers met and unmet needs, and recommends solutions that optimize value for both the customer and the firm Competencies Good project management skills incl. budget management Strong analytical and problemsolving skills Proactive approach towards potential andor current customers Good conflict management skills in a multicultural and interdisciplinary setup Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Innovative spirit and business acumen Demonstrated serviceoriented attitude Proven communication skills at all levels and assertiveness Curious, flexible, adaptable, has a view into the future, and is at ease in a change environment Fluency in English, any other EMEA language is considered as an asset Qualification Experience Minimum 5 years of applicable professional experience in engineering and implementing of large, reliable, distributed client server applications and communication protocols Experience in presales engineering e.g. technical proposal, cost estimation, facing customer is an asset Proven projectbudget and time management experience Knowledge of performance, risk, cost, and schedule analysis Knowledge of the satellite technologies and satellitebased communication Good understanding of software engineering methodologies, like UML Good understanding of serviceoriented architectures SOA, like J2EE Programming skills in object oriented, procedural and functional programming languages, like Java, CC, PHP, Perl, Python, HTML, and JavaScript Sound knowledge with database management systems Sound knowledge with network design, deployment and operations Sound knowledge with network with emphasis on TCPIIP running over different physical media Familiar with UNIXLinux Operating System, Android and iOS Operating System, Virtualization platforms including VMware, Cloud Computing, Software Build System, Ticketing Systems Knowledge of software practices and standards such as ITIL and ECSS Whats in it for you?
