While Ethan Allen CEO Farooq Kathwari admitted Wednesday that sales at the locally based furniture company have been relatively flat for the past few years as the company retools its product offerings, he estimated a return to the $1 billion in sales by 2017. Kathwari appeared to be fighting for the company's survival during a more than an hour and a half investors conference call held Wednesday, a day after activist investor Sandell Asset Management Corp. initiated a proxy war by nominating six board of director candidates for the annual meeting to be held in November.
