FreedomPop to launch MVNO on Base network in Belgium

2014-07-10 16:40:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) US MVNO FreedomPop has signed an agreement to launch in Europe on the Base network in Belgium. FreedomPop uses a 'freemium' business model, offering customers a bundle of free SMS, data and VoIP minutes, as well as paid plans for higher usage. While in the US its services are bundled with phones, it will focus on a Sim-only service in Belgium. The service will provide users a base amount of complimentary data, voice and text each month coupled with a range of value-added services and additional paid options for higher consumption. In addition to offering international SIMs to Belgium residents, it will target American travellers to Belgium. FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols told Forbes recently that 45 percent of customers take some kind of paid options, either via monthly plans (25% of customers) or added features (28%) such as faster speeds. The company did not say what kind of plans or prices it will offer in Belgium, or when it plans to launch. FreedomPop plans to test the service in Belgium before launching on other European markets.
