Frigid weather spurs torrid Q1 earnings for Duke Energy

Duke Energy easily beat earnings expectations in a first quarter, led by strong results from its regulated utilities as their generation plants performed well during record cold spells early in the year. Duke says it earned $867 million, or $1.22 per diluted share , on revenue totaling $5.46 billion in the quarter.
