Jolla signs up India's Intex for first Sailfish licence

2015-07-16 15:38:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Jolla announced its first licensing agreement for the Sailfish mobile operating system, with Indian manufacturer Intex Technologies. Intex is expected to launch the first phones from the agreement late this year. As part of Jolla's strategy to expand in the BRICS countries, the company also said it's setting up a subsidiary in India, Sailfish India, in cooperation with local internet players Snapdeal and Times Internet. The aim is to create a local ecosystem to help differentiate and promote the Sailfish products; more partners will be added to the Indian alliance over time. Within the latest version of Sailfish, Jolla created the PartnerSpace, for the introduction of local services. Various revenue-sharing models will make it possible for manufacturers and service providers to exploit the Sailfish platform. The news comes as Jolla finishes Sailfish 2.0, the latest version of its software. At Mobile World Congress Shanghai, the company also announced that Sailfish OS 2.0 is now available on an optimised LTE reference platform. In order to enable a quick time-to-market for its licensing partners, Jolla has developed a range of optimised Sailfish OS hardware platforms from Qualcomm's Snapdragon 200/600/800 configurations.
