Sept. 12, 1940, in The Star: In his letter to the editor objecting to what he perceives as an endorsement of the theory of evolution in a grade-school textbook, Leonard Morris of Eastaboga writes: "[H]ow can we hope for religious and moral improvement when our school authorities allow such stuff as that to go into our course of study and tell the teachers that it must be taught? How long are we going to sit still and allow that kind of dope stuffed down our throats? Now at the opening of our schools I favor an open rebellion against that stuff by parents and teachers and let the school authorities know that we are not going to stand for it."
