2015-02-09 09:08:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) MediaTek reported fourth-quarter sales of TWD 55.45 billion, down 3.5 percent sequentially due to a seasonal slowdown after the year-end holiday peak in the smartphone market. Quarterly revenues were stil up 39.3 percent year-on-year, thanks to its takeover of Mstar. Over the full year 2014, MediaTek grew revenues 56.6 percent to TWD 213.06 billion. The chipmaker's gross margin totaled 47.9 percent in Q4, down 1.2 percentage points sequentially and up 2.2 percentage points year-over-year. The quarter-over-quarter decrease was mainly due to product transition and the year-over-year increase to a higher mix of smartphone and high-end products, the company said. Net profit reached TWD 10.41 billion, down 21.7 percent sequentially after an increase in investment in "talent and technology", MediaTek said. R&D expenses reached 22.5 percent of revenues in the quarter. The net profit figure was still up 20.8 percent on an annual basis.
