Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europes number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy has arisen for a Network Support Engineer with Airbus Defence and Space Services Government Communications UK in Hawthorn, Corsham. The successful applicant will join the Post Design Services team PDS. The PDS team is responsible for the provision of support to implementation and support of services across all Airbus Defence and Space owned and customer sites as applicable. The Network Support Engineer will typically engage at the verification testing stage of the project, although this may vary due to the nature of the project at that time. You will also be expected to provide individual network support and as such this will be via an on call structure. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Provision of specialist 247 oncall network support on a rotation basis within a team. Ownership of assigned ongoing fault investigations on the commercial network, liaising with 4th line as appropriate. Problem diagnosis and recommending solutions. Review and feedback of user and system requirements in the service requirements specification, ensuring support requirements and strategies are catered for. Carrying out VVT Validation, Verification Test on Airbus Defence and Space delivered services. Creation of test plans and specifications. Creation and ownership of all relevant documentation to support the service in its final operational state. Support the Early Life support process for a service as it transitions into operations between the service installation at customer site, and pre Phase 4. Support the delivery of the Password Management policy on the Airbus Defence and Space Services Government Communications networks. Implementation of firmware and software patches on the Airbus Defence and Space Services Government Communications network elements in accordance with the Patch Management Policy. Travel is expected to the Airbus Defence and Space Ground Station installations on a frequent basis. As part of the role there will also be requirement to travel to customer installations overseas. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering degree or equivalent CCNP certification Proven experience in the Defence or Telecoms industries Experience in Satcomms and Network installation Network Support, IP networks Must have demonstrable knowledge of ATM, TCPIP Synchronous and asynchronous communications protocols Nortel Passport and similar switch equipment Knowledge of satellite communications systems Knowledge of MPLS networks Knowledge of IBM Tivoli suite and other NMS Knowledge and use of DCAP, DC2K, mini catapan, Ectocrypt etc. Advanced knowledge of X21, RS530 and serial communication protocols. Ability to work across the technical teams in order to progress and deliver on key deliverables Ability to work autonomously in day to day activities Good report writing and general communication skills Must be analytical and able to diagnose and recommend problem resolution.
