Oakland helping low-income seniors with old garbage bill

The city of Oakland has identified funding to restore a garbage discount program for low-income seniors for one year, public works officials said today. About 1,500 low-income seniors who live in single-family buildings had been receiving a discount on their garbage bills until July 1, when new trash, compost and recycling service contracts were implemented by the city and the discount program ended.
