This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESTEC in Noordwijk in The Netherlands. Optical Instrument Payload Engineer 1611102 Job Description We are looking for an Optical Instrument Engineer to support our client ESA at ESTEC in Holland. You will be supporting the Space Segment Performance Engineering activities within Earth Observation. In particular your tasks will include The development, implementation and validation of complex performance models of optical spaceborne instruments, in particular passive spectrometers instruments, dedicated to atmospheric missions The assessment of the instruments system performance as well as subsystems contributing to the instruments performances The contribution to meetings within ESA, industry and potentially with users. You will report to the Instrument System Performance Engineer and liaise with various members of the project team, being responsible for the various instrument subsystems and disciplines, e.g. optics, focal plane assembly, calibration. With regard to the mission performance assessment it is expected that you will also liaise with the science support team, where adequate, to support both the mission related scientific studies and the instrument design evolution. Required Skills and Experience You will have a university degree or equivalent qualification in Physics with a background of at least 3 years in Optical Engineering You shall demonstrate good familiarity with computer programs such as Excel, MathCAD and MATLAB andor Python. Good communication skills. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world. Fluent in the English language spoken and written knowledge of other languages is an asset.
