Research launches laser light into hollow-core optical fiber.
2016-03-10 14:31:09| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
For first time, researchers have demonstrated that laser light can be used to manipulate glass optical fiber tapered to sharp point smaller than a speck of dust, in the middle of an optical fiber with a hollow core. Optical forces cause sharp point, or "nanospike," to self-align at center of hollow core, trapping it more and more strongly at core center as laser power increases. Reported in OSA's Optica journal, research may increase applications in laser cutting and basic physics research.
