Senior Communications Systems Engineer, Africa Project 2 year contract Ref SES0334 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category Ground Terrestrial Engineering Position Staff Context SES Techcom Services has a need to hire extra resources for an important project, the definition and implementation of a country wide ICT infrastructure in Africa Responsibilities The Senior Communications Engineer Africa Project is directly responsible for the specification, design, implementation, validation and verification of the network system and satellite and hybrid communication. Shehe may act as a Project Manager. Specify, design, evaluate, implement and test networking, communication and applications infrastructure required to support satellite and hybrid communication systems Procure equipment, software and services necessary to build the network and communication infrastructure and manage shipment Carrying out site surveys Plan, monitor and assess performance of designed and implemented network Specify, design, evaluate and operations and business support system OSSBSS Supervise specification, design, and development work necessary for project implementation, including project control functions Perform VSAT networks planning, including link budgets, capacity planning and dimensioning Design and implement network infrastructure andor modifications to comply with specific customer requirements such as their standards, interfaces and software and hardware technologies Build and maintain close relationship with suppliers and subcontractors Interface customer and collect requirements for the setup of budgets, procurements, installation management and the operational handover of systems Coordinate with other functions Project Control, Legal, Finance for the transparent and effective realization of assigned project Travel internationally and meet directly with customers and vendors Additionally Provide support to Sales department for the presales activities presales engineering Define future technology requirements in close cooperation with sales and other SES companies Followup technology development in the field of the expertise and make recommendations regarding evolution of Techcom services and products Provide technical recommendations and expertise to the management in the area of networking, communication protocols and network management Experience Qualifications University degree or equivalent technical college with pertinent professional experience in telecommunications andor computer science Minimum of 10 years experience in engineering of large, reliable, distributed, heterogeneous network and communications systems Excellent knowledge of satellite communications and networks in general Excellent knowledge of networking and protocols with emphasis on TCPIP running over different physical media Sound knowledge of satellite based mobile and fixed IP network and their topologies Sound knowledge of system design, network design, deployment and operations Knowledge of the satellite RF technologies and satellite based communication Knowledge and experience of government and military customers Handson experience on deploying satellite based communication networks Able to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced and changing environment Familiar with VoIP protocols and implementations Experienced with VSAT products specially iDirect and Gilat products andor network planning and modeling would be additional asset Cisco certificates would be additional assets Languages Fluency in English, French would be an asset Readiness to Travel to Africa Personal skills communication skills, analytical sense, coordination and priority setting facilities, problem perception, assessment and solving, autonomy and team work, flexibility and mobility.
